It’s a Cash Mob!!

When I first heard the term “Cash Mob” all I could think of was someone being locked in a money blowing machine or a transfer truck getting into an accident causing money to fly everywhere (a la Con Air).  Turns out a Cash Mob has nothing to do with flying money, or the mob. The entire idea of a cash mob is to benefit a small, local business by going in with a ‘mob’ of people and spending no less that $20 – think small business day with just one business.

Upon researching these elusive cash mobs, I found that there is actually an entire website that lists mob groups in each state – Montana has one group ‘registered’ in Great Falls, but a cash mob hit a Billings store last week – along with international mobs in places like Australia and Sweden.  This up-to-date site allows you to add and promote your cash mob through their webpage and gives ideas on how to start a mob, but leaves how to choose the company keeping it up to the mobs discretion – it does need to be an independent/locally owned shop.

While International Cash Mob Day II is coming up Memorial Day weekend – May 25th to be exact – that doesn’t mean a mob can’t happen on any day at any time; as can been seen from the many cash mobs happening randomly all over the world. All it takes is one person to plan it (social media and a press release is all you need), a group of people, and $20 to show how much you love and support your local businesses. Knowing the people of Bozeman, I bet we could have one ready to go by next weekend!

What do you guys think? If you would be interested in setting one up hop on it and let us know about the event on our Facebook Page!
